Earlier today 17th March 2021, Samsung held meeting of annual shareholders in Suwon at South Korea where Co-CEO DJ Koh revealed to investors the company is considering skipping the introduction of the Galaxy Note mobile phone in 2021 because of the “huge imbalance” of semiconductors in the world, meaning there is a greater demand for chips than there is supply.
Koh said that Samsung wants to offer a new product, but because of the unusual nature of the chip, “time may vary” and “next year” the column should return to the track.
Samsung is one of the largest manufacturers in the world, but it is one of the few, the other major player is TSMC.
Growing demand is one thing, but the company’s fabric in Austin, Texas, was discontinued in February with power outages across the state and has yet to resume full production.
Analysts suggest that the lack of Galaxy Note phones will affect the company’s shipping by almost 5%, but will lead to a decrease in revenue as it is one of the most expensive mobile phones in the Galaxy world.
