About the Dispensary Support Learnership
The Dispensary Support Learnership Programme is designed to train learners in the fundamentals of pharmacy operations, medicine dispensing, and patient support services.
Participants will be employed on a fixed-term contract while completing the Basic Pharmacist Assistant course.
After successfully completing the programme and registering with the SAPC, learners may be considered for permanent employment within Dis-Chem Pharmacies.
Key Responsibilities
Learners participating in the programme will assist with several pharmacy duties, including:
- Selling Schedule 1 medicines and related substances
- Assisting with the preparation and compounding of non-sterile medicines
- Managing dispensary stock and merchandising
- Maintaining clean and organised dispensary and OTC shelves
- Supporting script interpretation and medication dispensing
- Ensuring medication is picked, packed, labelled, and checked correctly
- Monitoring stock levels and medication expiry dates
- Assisting with patient follow-ups and prescription tracking
- Supporting authorisations for chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medications
- Providing basic health information to patients
- Assisting with call centre and patient service calls
Minimum Requirements
To qualify for the Dis-Chem Dispensary Support Learnership, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Grade 12 (Matric) certificate
- Must have Pure Mathematics
- Must have Physical Science or Life Science
- Must have achieved at least a 50% average
- Must be willing to work in a pharmacy retail environment
