How To Appeal Your R370 Sassa Grant. The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) provides essential financial support through the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant, currently valued at R370 per month. This grant is aimed at assisting unemployed individuals who are not receiving any other form of government aid. However, due to the large number of applications, many individuals find their applications rejected  sometimes in error.

If your SRD grant application has been declined, you still have a chance to appeal the decision and potentially receive the grant.

Why Was My Application Rejected?

Your application may be rejected for several reasons, such as:

  • Incomplete or incorrect information
  • Income detected in your bank account
  • Receiving another social grant or support (e.g., UIF or NSFAS)
  • Not meeting the age requirement (18–59 years)

Fortunately, Sassa allows you to appeal if you believe the decision was incorrect.

To submit an appeal, follow the steps below:

  • Go to the Sassa Appeals Website: https://srd.dsd.gov.za/appeals
  • Enter your South African ID number
  • Enter the cell phone number used during your initial application
  • Click “Send Pin” and wait for the verification SMS
  • Enter the received PIN code and click “Submit”
  • Select the month you are appealing for
  • Choose a reason for your appeal from the list
  • Click “Submit” to finalize the appeal process

Once submitted, your appeal will be reviewed by an Independent Tribunal, which ensures a fair and transparent decision-making process.

How To Check Your Appeal Status

After submitting your appeal, you can check its progress online: https://srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/status

If your appeal is approved, you will be notified via SMS. If your appeal is unsuccessful, and you still believe the outcome was unjust, you may apply for a judicial review through the High Court.

SRD Grant Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the R370 SRD grant, you must:

  • Be a South African citizen, permanent resident, refugee, or asylum seeker
  • Be between 18 and 59 years old
  • Be unemployed
  • Not receive any other financial assistance, including NSFAS, UIF, or other social grants

When To Appeal

You must appeal within 30 days of receiving a rejection notification. Appeals can be submitted for each month your application is declined, so it’s important to check your status regularly and take timely action.

In General, The SRD grant continues to serve as a lifeline for millions of unemployed South Africans. If your application is rejected, don’t give up the appeal process gives you a second chance to receive the support you may be entitled to.
