About the Role
UNICEF Tanzania is seeking two passionate and analytical interns to join its Social and Behaviour Change (SBC) Section. In a rapidly digitizing Tanzania, where millions engage on platforms like WhatsApp and Facebook, digital channels are critical in shaping beliefs and behaviors. This internship focuses on harnessing that digital landscape to generate real-time insights that protect children and empower communities.
Under the guidance of the Social and Community Listening Analyst, you will support the collection, analysis, and translation of data from digital platforms and community feedback systems to inform UNICEF’s programs in health, nutrition, education, and child protection.
Key Responsibilities
1. Social & Community Listening (40%)
Monitor conversations across social media, feedback systems, and digital communities.
Identify emerging narratives, misinformation trends, and public concerns affecting children and youth.
Assist in preparing weekly and thematic social listening reports.
Map key influencers and digital communities relevant to UNICEF’s work.
2. Data Analysis & Insights Generation (30%)
Clean, code, and process qualitative and quantitative datasets.
Analyze sentiment, demographic patterns, and thematic trends.
Create data visualizations (dashboards, charts) for internal use.
Triangulate digital insights with community feedback and program data.
3. Survey Design & Management (20%)
Support the development of survey tools using Kobo/ODK, including XForms.
Assist with translation checks, skip logic, and testing of digital questionnaires.
Monitor live surveys to ensure data quality.
Prepare survey summaries and analytical notes.
4. Documentation & Knowledge Management (10%)
Prepare PowerPoint presentations, briefs, and communication products.
Organize dashboards and resources within the SBC knowledge management system.
Support collaboration with Health, Nutrition, WASH, and Child Protection teams.
Qualifications
Education:
Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate (within the last 2 years) of a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in:
Statistics
Data Science
Public Health
Social Sciences
Communications
Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
A related field
Experience and Skills:
Familiarity with data analysis tools (Excel, Google Sheets; Power BI is an asset).
Basic understanding of social media platforms and digital analytics.
Experience with Talkwalker, IHEARU, or Kobo Toolbox/ODK is a strong advantage.
Strong analytical, writing, and communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.
Proficiency in English is required; Swahili is an advantage.

Administrative Details
Stipend: A monthly stipend will be provided by the University of Dar es Salaam.
Work Hours: 20 hours per week (unless otherwise agreed).
Equipment: Interns must provide their own laptop.
Insurance: Proof of medical insurance coverage is required.
Conduct: Interns must adhere to UNICEF’s Code of Conduct and Child Safeguarding policies.
Visa: Interns are responsible for obtaining any necessary visas; UNICEF will provide supporting documents.
Supervision and Performance Review
The intern will be supervised by the Social and Community Listening Analyst. Performance will be reviewed at the mid-point and end of the assignment against agreed deliverables.
