Mkuranga District Council is one of the districts of the Coast Region. In the 2002 census, the district’s population was estimated at 187,428. Mkuranga (green) place in the Coast region.
The district was established in 1995 from the Kisarawe district. Its area is 2,432 km² and there is a 90-kilometer Indian Ocean coast.

The seven coastal villages are hungubweni, Mpafu, Kerekese, Kisiju Pwani, Mdimni, Magawa and Kifumangao. The villages of Boza, Kuruti, Kwale and Koma are located on small islands in the sea not far from the coast. There are mangrove forests and endangered species still have reserves here.
