Job Purpose
The Senior Manager Institutional Banking will provide leadership and support to a team of Relationship Managers to grow and retain a portfolio of Institutional Banking clients, including both Government and Institutional entities. This role requires a proactive approach to financial partnership, ensuring personalized service and tailored financial solutions to meet the needs of Government and Institutional Banking clients. Additionally, the role involves enhancing relationships with the Government and other key stakeholders, both internal and external.
Main Responsibilities
Relationship Management and Business Growth
- Provide expert advice on promoting, selling, and structuring a diverse range of financial solutions for Government and Institutional Banking customers.
- Acquire and onboard new clients while cross-selling additional value-added solutions to the existing portfolio.
- Strengthen relationships with Government and institutional customers to align with Wholesale Banking strategy and objectives.
- Foster team communication and collaboration through coordinated social activities with Relationship Managers and other business units.
- Support Relationship Managers by reinforcing ecosystem banking between Institutional and Retail Banking.
- Develop and execute a client-calling schedule to ensure regular engagement with portfolio clients.
- Conduct frequent client interactions to assess financial needs and provide tailored solutions.
- Assist Relationship Managers in completing credit application requirements, including financial statements and management accounts.
Risk Management
- Ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements, including KYC and Control Self-Assessment.
- Oversee and manage the Institutional Banking liability and loan book within the bank’s risk appetite framework.
- Review Institutional Banking credit applications before submission to CREDCO.
- Demonstrate expertise in Government and Public Sector financing.
- Support customers in completing credit applications and conducting annual credit reviews to maintain a quality portfolio.
People Management and Leadership
- Lead a team of Relationship Managers, setting high work standards and achieving business targets.
- Monitor and evaluate performance, providing constructive feedback and development opportunities.
- Identify strengths and development areas for Relationship Managers, ensuring access to learning and skills enhancement programs.
- Provide proactive coaching and mentoring to build a high-performing team.
Knowledge and Skills
- In-depth understanding of banking policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements (as per the Bank of Tanzania).
- Strong knowledge of various industry sectors and associated risk profiles.
- Expertise in Government and Institutional Banking, including market trends and competitor insights.
- Strong credit analysis skills to identify financing opportunities for Government and Institutional clients.
- Experience in budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and sales management.
- Leadership and management skills with a strategic approach to business development.
- General understanding of business trends and competition within the banking industry.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in business-related fields.
- Master’s degree in business-related fields or certifications such as CPB, CPA (added advantage).
- Minimum of 6 years’ experience in Government and Institutional Banking or reputable Financial Services Industry, with at least 4 years in a senior leadership role.
