Msalala District Council officially started implementing its budget on 01/07/2013 after it was announced in the Government Gazette dated 31/08/2012 by GN No.
286 to be the full Authority of Msalala District Council. Msalala Council was formed after Kahama District Council split and thus gave birth to Ushetu Council and Msalala Council.
The district borders Geita region to the north and to the south it borders with Tabora region. To the west, the district borders with Shinyanga district and to the west it borders Kahama Town Council.
Administratively Msalala district has 2 Division, 16 Wards, 82 Villages and 322 Sub-villages. The district occupies an area of 263,520.
2 hectares (2,635.52 km2) which is equivalent to 5.2% of the total area of Shinyanga region i.e 50,781 km².
