The Catholic Church built the Hospital between 1968 – 1977 and it was offically opened by His Excellency the late President Julius Kambarage Nyerere on 3rd November 1971. In 1972 the Hospital was nationlized by the Government. However, in October 1985 the Government handed back the Hospital to the Tanzania Episcopal Conference of the Catholic Bishops of Tanzania who is the owner with an agreement that the hospital be run in partnership with the government to provide Government Services as a referral and consultant hospital for the Lake Zone.
Bugando Medical Centre is a referral, consultant and university teaching hospital for the Lake and Western zones of the United Republic of Tanzania. It is situated along the shores of Lake Victoria in Mwanza City. It has over 950 beds and over 1300 employees.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Attending in and out patients.
- Attending emergency medical duties.
- Carrying out specialized investigations of admitted patients.
- Ensuring that prescribed instructions are carried out.
- Conducting specialized operations of his specialized field of study.
- Conducting on the job training to the junior staff
- Carrying out service and participating in major ward rounds.
- Supervising medical students and interns in clinical duties.
- Participating fully in morning clinical sessions, patient presentation and journal clubs.
- Participating in research activities.

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Holder of a Masters of Medicine (M.Med) degree or Post graduate Diploma, PhD or in its equivalent from a recognized Institution in any medical specialty.
- Must be registered by the Tanganyika Medical Council as a Medical Doctor.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Carrying out specialized medical care in respective field.
- Teaching and supervising medical students and postgraduate students including setting exams.
- Can be appointed to head a firm.
- Can be assigned a senior administrative post at the hospital.
- Conducting medical researches.
- Conducting surgical duties.
- Conduct out reach services.
- Formulate SOP in the respective department/section/units.
- Strategic duties for the development of medical services.
- Attending emergency duties.
- Participating fully in morning clinical sessions, patient presentation and journal clubs.
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Holder of a Masters/Postgraduate Doctor of Medicine or MBCHB degree or its equivalent with postgraduate degree in the respective field of specialization, with super specialization in radiation oncology or pediatric surgery, with 8 years of working experience in medical specialist.
