Applications are invited from suitably qualified people for PhD Scholarships in Geography, Law and/or Political Science offered by the University of Dar es Salaam under the Everyday Humanitarianism in Tanzania Research Project. The project is funded by the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA).

Duration of the Scholarship
- The duration of the scholarship is three years.
Nature of the PhD Programme
- Funded PhD by thesis (research).
Scholarship Eligibility Requirements
Eligible applicants are required to have the following:
• Hold a master’s degree in Geography, Law, Political Science or any other related Social Science discipline from an accredited university.
• Submitted an application for admission to any of the PhD programmes mentioned above at the University of Dar es Salaam.
The admission application shall be for the Second Semester that will begin on 6th April 2020. The admission window for that semester is open and available at: https://udsm.admission.ac.tz/index.php?r=site%2Flogin
Granting of a scholarship is conditional upon proof of admission to a PhD degree programme at the University of Dar es Salaam in the fields mentioned above. Applicants are advised to expedite their admission applications so as to meet the University’s Second Semester deadline of 6th April 2020.

Fees
The scholarship is fully funded and will follow the fee structure of the University of Dar es Salaam this will include: application, registration, insurance, fees, research funds as provided at: https://www.udsm.ac.tz/web/index.php/directorates/dpgs.
The PhD Positions
The Project announces three PhD positions for which the scholarships are offered, in Geography, Law and/or Political Science, at the University of Dar es Salaam.
The three PhD positions are:
- PhD on how the legal or institutional framework of Tanzania shapes Everyday Humanitarianism and human rights.
- PhD on the political history of Everyday Humanitarianism in Tanzania and Southern Africa.
- PhD on understanding inequalities and the relative need for help in refugee camps.

Eligible applicants for these PhD positions in the Project should apply for admission at the University of Dar es Salaam by following the procedures described at https://udsm.admission.ac.tz/index.php?r=site%2Flogin
In addition, applicants should send their applications to the Project. In doing so, applicants will provide:
- A concept note (maximum 5 pages) that clearly shows the linkages of the applicants’ potential PhD area of research to the project interest as summarized below
- A curriculum vitae (maximum 3 pages)
- A list of publications (if any) or an electronic copy of a master’s dissertation
- A copy of a master’s degree certificate
- Two academic reference letters (to be sent directly by the referee to the emails below).

Applicants should prepare for a personal interview on a date to be announced to them later.
Successful applicants should be ready to start their studies in April 2020.
