At the behest of the Tanzanian Government, the green field project of Bagamoyo Sugar Ltd (Bagamoyo Sugar), a unit of Bakhresa Group, was incorporated on 01 December 2016, to grow sugar cane in the nucleus estate and produce sugar at Makurunge, Bagamoyo District.
The main objective of the project is not only reducing dependence on sugar imports and attaining self-sufficiency, but also producing surplus sugar for export. It is the first time that this project is being implemented in Tanzania at this scale. The sugar plant is being supplied by
