The Catholic Church built the Hospital between 1968 – 1977 and it was offically opened by His Excellency the late President Julius Kambarage Nyerere on 3rd November 1971. In 1972 the Hospital was nationlized by the Government.
However, in October 1985 the Government handed back the Hospital to the Tanzania Episcopal Conference of the Catholic Bishops of Tanzania who is the owner with an agreement that the hospital be run in partnership with the government to provide Government Services as a referral and consultant hospital for the Lake Zone

| DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES | i. Attending in and out patients; ii. Attending emergency medical duties; iii. Carrying out specialized investigations of admitted patients; iv. Ensuring that prescribed instructions are carried out; v. Conducting specialized operations of his specialized field of study; vi. Conducting on the job training to the junior staff; vii. Carrying out service and participating in major ward rounds; viii. Supervising medical students and interns in clinical duties; ix. Participating fully in morning clinical sessions, patient presentation and journal clubs; x. Conducting medical researches and consultancies; and xi. Conduct outreach services. |
| QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE | Holder of a Masters of Medicine (MMed) degree or Post graduate Diploma or its equivalent from a recognized Institution in any medical specialty. Must be registered by the Tanganyika Medical Council as a Medical Doctor. |
