TANAPA to establish Cable Car Mount Kilimanjaro. TANAPA Assistant Conservation Commissioner, ACC Paul Banga said the General Management Plan (GMP) which includes all Tourism Stakeholders, approved a plan to establish a cable car on Mount Kilimanjaro as a Strategy to increase the number of tourists in the country. He said this during the Tanapa Session with Editors and Senior Journalists in Dodoma City.
Banga said the cable car would start near Machame Gate to climb Mount Kilimanjaro and end at Shira Plateau. The cable car will be 3,700 meters long out of the 5,895 meters of Mount Kilimanjaro. Car cable will not reach the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro
He said the government is currently conducting an evaluation to see if the project will allow it or not.
Out of fear of many people losing their jobs, especially the helpers of the mountaineers, he explained that the activities of climbing the mountain on foot will continue as usual.
Banga said he is aware of the presence of the Disabled and the Elderly who wish to climb Mount Kilimanjaro so cable car will help fulfill their dreams.
A cable car is a car that wires from one place to another without touching the ground.
