Kodi Za Majengo By LUKU. Payment of property taxes through the purchase of the luku system begins tomorrow, Friday August 20, 2021 after the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) officially announced with different rates depending on the properties.
According to the announcement, current homeowners within the same plot will pay Sh12,000 from Sh10,000 previously charged Sh60,000 for each apartment floor from Sh50,000.
In the case of District and Small Town Councils they will also be affected by the increase despite the recovery as they will pay Sh60,000 for apartment houses regardless of the number of floors
According to a statement issued by the TRA Commissioner General, Alphayo Kidata today stated that the implementation is carried out under the supervision of the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) in collaboration with Tanzania Electricity Corporation (TANESCO) involving meters of all types of electricity.
“This is being done following an amendment to the Local Government Authority Tax Act, Chapter 289 passed by the Budget Parliament in 2021 where property rates rates have been changed,” the statement said.

The report states that with this new code collection method, each buyer of electricity will be deducted Sh1,000 per month for a typical house and Sh5,000 per month for each floor of the apartment.
“For those who use Ankara meters they will pay this tax together in the new Ankara. For owners whose buildings have not been electrified, they will continue to pay the tax using the previously used system which is a mobile phone and bank after getting the number “Pay Number Control until they are electrified,”
“Owners of buildings and the general public who will be wrongly deducted the tax and those who have various grievances, will be required to come to the TRA offices nearest to their areas for treatment,”
Previously Property Rates were collected by Local Government Authorities where in 2016/17 this responsibility was transferred to TRA and to this day it continues to manage that responsibility. Kodi Za Majengo By LUKU Tanzania
